Palliative care consultant cover for NHS and private hospitals
Consultant-led Telephone Support
We provide telephone support services for several NHS and private hospitals who benefit from specialist Out Of Hours (OOH), (17:00-09:00 365 days) medical support.
Our national chamber of senior consultants physicians in palliative medicine are all GMC registered and on the specialist
register for palliative medicine, with substantive NHS contracts.
Supportive care has full corporate indemnity cover. All of our consultants also maintain their own individual indemnity cover with one of the major medical liability providers.
Full administrative team
Our in-house administrative team are available within working hours. They ensure excellent communication between hospital trusts and Supportive Care consultants, so that our service is seamless and flexible according to the needs of the hospital.
Scope of service
Our Supportive Care consultants will provide second on call telephone support to cover all settings including hospital,
hospice and community services.
Direct telephone support
Supportive Care consultants are available on demand for clinical advice and support. We are contactable via a 24h operator service who connect the caller to our on call physician. We provide immediate clinical advice and will send an encrypted or faxed report through to the hospital by the next working day. Where required, our consultants will also liaise directly (by phone) with the clinical team the next morning.

Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)
‘I want to thank Hayley (CNS in palliative care) for her help over the past few months. We have many complex patients and discharges on the ward and her help, support and guidance with these has been invaluable’
Senior Sister, Oncology Inpatient Ward, The Christie Clinic.
The service has always been consistently high with availability of consultants to support not only patients and their families, but also our staff and the primary consultant in charge of the patients’ care. There is a strong ethos of collaboration between consultants delivering end of life care and symptom control. Both of Doctor Berman’s teams make a crucial difference to the patient pathway and the outcomes of care.
Specialist Training Programmes
Our Service Level agreements include the provision of annual staff training programmes in Palliative and Supportive Care.
The interactive participation made us all think about how we would approach and speak to patients. Having cared for my husband through terminal cancer I found one of the sessions emotionally difficult. However, despite this I found the day very helpful and cathartic.
My colleagues were very supportive and understanding.
I am constantly amazed by people in a positive way.
