Applications Now Open for Medical Leadership Programme January Cohort
Supportive Care UK's Medical Leadership Programme offers expert coaching, practical skills and peer support for emerging medical leaders.

Medical leadership is often the most challenging part of the job, and the area many clinicians feel least prepared for.
Clinical training is long and demanding, but it rarely equips future leaders with the practical realities of leading teams, navigating organisational dynamics, or managing governance, safety and quality. As a result, many new Medical Directors learn through experience alone, often under significant pressure and with limited support.
Supportive Care UK's Medical Leadership Programme was created to address this gap.
Led by Professors Matt Makin and Derek Willis, the programme provides six structured coaching sessions designed to support emerging medical leaders through the challenges of transitioning into leadership roles.
Participants benefit from:
- 1:1 coaching to work through real-world challenges in a confidential and supportive environment
- Board-level insight to strengthen relationships, influence and decision-making
- Practical leadership skills focused on communication, personality types and managing team dysfunction
- Governance, safety and quality expertise, areas consistently highlighted as those clinicians feel least prepared for
- A professional peer community that helps reduce the isolation many new medical leaders experience
Over the past three years, we have been proud to support clinicians stepping into leadership positions across a range of partner organisations.
We are now inviting applicants for our new cohort starting in January. If you would like to learn more about the programme or discuss whether it may be right for you or members of your organisation, we would be delighted to arrange a conversation.
