Medical leadership is often the hardest part of the job and the part that many clinicians are least prepared for.
Clinical training is long and demanding, but it rarely teaches the realities of leading teams, navigating organisational politics or managing safety, quality and governance. Many new medical directors end up learning on the job, often in isolation and under pressure.
Supportive Care UK’s Medical Leadership Programme was created to change that. Led by Professors Matt Makin and Derek Willis, over 6 structured coaching sessions, it offers practical development for emerging medical leaders:
